On Saturday, November 11th, Project Cafe members helped to decorate the Cazenovia American Legion for their luncheon. They also served food during and cleaned up after the luncheon. Numerous Project Cafe members also attended the Veterans Day Ceremony which took place in Cannon Park.
On Sunday, August 20th, Project CAFE helped with this year’s first annual Duncans Dash held at Lakeside Park. The event was in memory of Duncan Redmond and other babies lost before birth. The goal of the event was to encourage child activeness and positive family dynamics. Children were guided through a fun run around the park with the help of students in Project CAFE. There was a bounce house, face painting, a cotton candy and popcorn machine, a bubble machine, and even kids Zumba. Project CAFE members enjoyed being apart of such an amazing event and hope to help in the future. Admission was five dollars a child; however, many people generously chose to contribute more. Overall, about $2,000 was raised. The funds will go to help purchase new playground equipment for Lakeside Park in memory of Duncan Redmond.
A candlelight vigil will be held on Monday, September 11 in Cazenovia’s Memorial Park beginning at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will serve to remember the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks and to honor the heroism of first responders and service members since that fateful day. There will be representation from local emergency response and veterans groups, music, silent reflection and more. All are welcome to attend the remembrance events marking the 16th anniversary of the tragedy. The candlelight vigil ceremony is coordinated annually by members of Project CAFE, a non-profit teen organization that, as part of its mission, coordinates Cazenovia community serviceprojects and events, in the hopes of improving and connecting the entire community.
